The History Van takes Year Six back in time

The History Van takes Year Six back in time – June 2016, by J Janiszewski, Stocksbridge Junior School

The Year sixes were whisked away back to the time of the Great War today, when Ms Bland came to visit with the History Van.  The children were given the opportunity to learn even more about the harsh realities of the First World War.  There were opportunities to be recruited into the Pals of the York and Lancaster Regiment, prepare a ‘comfort box’ for the soldiers at the front and to design a medal to be worn throughout the day.

The session was paid for through the funds raised from the Poppy Memorial Trail, which Stocksbridge Juniors was proud to be involved in.  We would like to express our thanks to Ms Bland, Bradfield Parish Council and the Peak District National Park Authority for making this event possible – thank you!
